n Barnesville: American Legion Post 74 of Mahanoy City will hold its third annual golf tournament at White Birch Golf Course, Barnesville, on June 23. Registration will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m., rain or shine. The cost is $60 per golfer, which includes food, refreshments and prizes. n Frackville: The Frackville Free Public Library has announced its annual Art of the Pumpkin Contest, held in conjunction with the Frackville Pumpkin Festival slated for Oct. 5. Wooden pumpkin blanks are available now at the library at $5 for adults or families and $3 for students and seniors 65 and older, Elaine M. Mykolayko, library director, said in a press release. The blanks can be decorated using any medium desired by the artist. Past entries have made use of paint, cut paper, wood burning, glass, fabric and other materials, she said. Completed pumpkins must be turned in by Sept. 4 and will be displayed around Frackville for several weeks. Winners of the contest will be determined by a public vote on the day of the festival. n Orwigsburg: The 5K Run, Walk & Roll to benefit the Orwigsburg Veterans Memorial is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 7 at the memorial building, Washington and Grove streets, just off Route 443. Entry, if postmarked by Aug. 20, will be $25 each, $23 for active military personnel or veterans. The Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. and the cost is $15 per entrant. After Aug. 20, add $5 for each category. Checks payable to Orwigsburg Memorial Restoration Run should be mailed to the Orwigsburg Memorial Taskforce, P.0. Box 157, Orwigsburg, PA 17961. n Pottsville: The Anthracite Philharmonic, under the director of Mark P. Thomas, will present "A Star-Spangled Banner Patriotic Concert" at 6 p.m. July 7 at Yuengling Mansion Gardens, 1440 Mahantongo St. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the event will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. There will be no fee for children under 12. Patrons may bring picnic lunches and favorite beverages. n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Area Free Public Library, Washington and Main streets, has new hours as follows: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, noon to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

n Shenandoah: Shenandoah Community Watch meets at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in borough hall, Washington and Main streets. Meetings are open to the public and new members are always welcome. Gordon Slater, SCW president, has called for more people to attend and become involved for the betterment of the community.

n Shenandoah: Defender Hose Company, 300 Furnace St. in the borough's Turkey Run section, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat crab fest from 2 to 6 p.m. July 20 at the firehouse.
