Police investigate

crash, 1 injured

Pottsville police investigated a crash that occurred about 9:45 p.m. Monday at West Market Street and Westwood Road, Routes 209 and 901.

At the scene, police said, they found a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Bryanna Maley, 18, of Forestville, on its roof facing west partially blocking the intersection, and a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kurt Brobst, 23, of Schuylkill Haven, stopped in the middle of the intersection.

Brobst said he was traveling south on Westwood Road when he failed to stop at a red traffic light and struck Maley's SUV, which was being driven west on Market Street, causing it to roll over.

Maley and her passenger, Zachary Houser, 18, of Minersville, were able to get out of the vehicle on their own.

Maley was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS for treatment while Houser and Brobst were not hurt, police said.

Pottsville firefighters assisted at the scene and police said Brobst will be cited for a red light violation.
