n Kelayres: Kline Township officials advise residents that ash pickup is now weekly on Saturdays until further notice.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Senior Community Center and Evergreen Senior Services will present a holiday food and shopping event from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the senior center, 138 W. Centre St., in conjunction with the annual Mahanoy City tree lighting. The event will include the sale of homemade soup, halushki, desserts and hot chocolate. Participants can enjoy the view of a horse-drawn carriage ride while sipping hot chocolate or head to the center to warm up after the ride and shop for holiday gifts. The marketplace will feature Coal Region.com gifts from Demmergraphics, Killian's Crafts, Paparazzi Jewelry, A Touch of Country and others. Both are programs of Diakon Community Services and managed under contracts with the Schuylkill County Office of Senior Services.

n McAdoo: Ss. Peter and Paul Polish National Catholic Church celebrated its 90th anniversary on Nov. 10. The main celebrant was the Right Rev. Bernard J. Nowicki, bishop ordinary of the Central Diocese, assisted by the Rev. Boguslaw Janiec and clergy members from the surrounding parishes. The celebration included the blessing and re-dedication of the newly renovated chandelier.

n McAdoo: McAdoo Fire Company Inc. will hold its annual Operation Santa Claus from Dec. 5 to 8. Members will take Santa around on a decorated sleigh. Monday is the deadline for reservations. Call Tony Vigna at 570-929-2642 to make a reservation. Fire company officials will call all who make reservations back with the date and time of their visit.

n Shenandoah: A free shredding event, sponsored by the Shenandoah Rotary Club, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the administrative parking lot at the Shenandoah Valley school complex, West Centre Street.

n Shenandoah: The traditional Nativity scene, sponsored by the Shenandoah Rotary Club and the Greater Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce has again been placed at the front of National Penn Bank near Main and Centre streets. This is the 30th year for the Nativity display, according to Mark Bernardyn, project co-chairman along with Rotarian Brad Oravitz. "How wonderful this tradition continues," Bernardyn said in a release. Shenandoah Valley High School students Jose Diaz, Tyler Marnell, Steve Quinn and Alberto Ruiz assisted in the project. The new holiday decorations compliment the Rotary trees, dressed off by large red bows donated by Tina Lewandowski of Tina's Flowers, South Main Street. Bernardyn, M&T Bank vice president, expressed appreciation to all who participate in the holiday endeavor. Donations from local businesses and community residents help defray the project costs. n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Salvation Army is ready for its annual holiday traditions, including the Angel Tree Program, Christmas Kettle Campaign and WNEP's Feed A Friend program. The Angel Tree Program provides a season brightener for needy children who may not otherwise receive gifts during the holidays. Names of participating children have been written on angel tags, have been placed on angel trees at participating locations. Each tag provides the name, age, gender, clothing sizes and special Christmas needs/wishes of the child. The deadline to return new, unwrapped items will be Dec. 11. The annual kettle campaign began Nov. 16 at Depot Square Park near the community Five Points. The Feed A Friend Campaign will run through Tuesday.
