Volunteer Connection: Honors elders during Older Americans Month

In 1963, the nation began celebrating Older Americans Month each May. RSVP of Schuylkill County supports the effort to acknowledge the contribution of older persons to our country and applauds the accomplishments of all their volunteers, past and present.

In support of the Older Americans Month and recognizing the importance of helping seniors to remain independently in their homes, RSVP continues to ask for your help by donating your time, talents and skills within your community.

Volunteers are being recruited for several significant areas. Drivers and runners are needed for Meals on Wheels delivery. Kind-hearted souls are being sought for friendly visitation and phone calls positions and grocery shopping and errand assistance.

In addition, compassionate drivers are being enlisted for medical transportation for those times when no other option is available to the consumer.

Background check fees are reimbursed to the applicant upon acceptance into the program and mileage reimbursement is available.

The joy you can bring to someone in need may be surpassed only by the satisfaction you yourself will experience. If you're age 55 or over and feel the urge to make a difference in the lives of our elders, contact Carol Bowen at 570-622-3103.
